Both of the North London clubs are battling it out to land the highly-rated 18-year-old central defender as the player has made an impressive first-team breakthrough at Saint Etienne last season. Reports in France claimed that Arsenal had an offer of 23 million euro bid plus 7 million euro in bonuses, but that offer has been knocked back by Saint Etienne as they want a full 30 million euro to be paid upfront.
There has also been speculation that The Gunners willing to send William Saliba back to Saint Etienne on loan next season in order to complete the deal ahead Tottenham Hotspur. No wonder the Gunners keen on getting William Saliba as he is regarded as one of the best young talents in French football in recent days.
However, Ghislain Printant is adamant that Saint Etienne is under no pressure to sell William Saliba. In an interview, he claims that the sale of William Saliba is not an absolute necessity for the club and said there is no urgency to do so. The manager also said that it’s true William Saliba is courted by several clubs, but from a sporting point of view, they want to keep him at the club next season, not to mention the player himself wishing to do so, other than that he also believed the player has room for development, hence they will make sure the player will stay in the club this season.
Both Clubs Is Keen On Signing William Saliba
Last season, Arsenal conceded 51 goals in the Premier League. That number over double that of Manchester City and Liverpool, hence Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his defense for the next season. William Saliba is seen as a perfect player for these purposes.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspurs could be on the lookout for a long-term successor for Toby Alderweireld as the 30-year-old Belgian player is believed for leaving the club soon. The Belgian player is available on the summer transfer market for 25 million pounds. William Saliba who can play in central defense or at right-back is considered as a perfect successor for him.
